december 3 playlist:

the rolling stones - time is on my side (single)
nicky hopkins - edward (the tin man was a dreamer)
bob dylan - from a buick 6 (highway 61 revisited)
mick jagger - too many cooks (spoil the soup) (the very best of mick jagger)
al kooper et al. - stop (super session)
freddie king - worried life blues (getting ready...)
don nix - will the circle be unbroken (in god we trust)
john simon - tannenbaum (john simon's album)
mahalia jackson - in the upper room (gospels, spirituals & hymns)
booker t. - evergreen (evergreen)
sonny stitt - pipin' the blues (deuces wild)
the byrds - 5d (fifth dimension) (fifth dimension)
the adorable back cover to nicky's tin man lp, perhaps the album which best typifies the close relationships of rock superstars and their sidemen. rolling stones lieutenant bobby keys (whose recent passing inspired me to do this special show on the greatest session players) blows some wicked sax alongside obscure session slide guitarist george o'hara (aka george harrison.)

i didn't learn of the passing of ian mclagan, organ giant of rock, until after the show ended. rest assured both he and deceased jazz player cherrry wainer will be given their due on next week's show.
