your host joe hartfeil pulls out all the stops every year to make his christmas specials extra special. this one, with an original piece of audio theatre at its heart, is a particularly nice one to pump the bellows of joy into your vital organs. featuring the voiceover talents of one bob salad. wintry warmth to you and yours. also: mister rogers plays organ! the band! sarah davachi! doug organ out the Christmas kazoo (aka the organ, which is in no way a kazoo)!

Tuesday 22 December 2020

your humble host went to the trouble of creating an original piece of christmas radio theatre for a cjsr 88.5 holiday special and making this rather quaint promo video. the least you can do is listen from 1:00 - 2:00 pm on wednesday, december 23. the program will also get some spins alongside other high quality seasonal programming during the station's holiday loop. thanks to bob salad (bradley j. sime) for the voiceover talent and doug organ for composing theme from the organ grinder.

Thursday 17 December 2020

there's not much (if any) proper chanukah music on this show, but then again there's not much proper chanukah music in the first place besides novelty numbers and one or two liturgical gems. music with a high organic content programmed to accompany the festival of lights and its attendant traditions.

Sunday 1 November 2020

my latest and battiest show for cjsr, whose fundrive is happening right now. included in this program are two newly commissioned pieces of music by doug organ, acting as opening and closing themes.

Tuesday 27 October 2020

wednesday at 1:00 pm on cjsr:

what happens when two men, drawn together by a fondness for music as well as conflicted relationships with both major league baseball and halloween join forces to expose perhaps the greatest, most terrifying scandal in the history of professional sports?

interview with the umpire. an organ grinder exclusive.

there's no teaser trailer, but better yet, you can listen now to the brand new promo for the show at the link above, featuring music by doug organ and voice work by paul wlodarczyk.

this selection, theme from the organ grinder, and closing theme, fugue state, both commissioned pieces composed by doug for the program, will be properly premiered on this week's show.

Wednesday 25 March 2020

as you may know, cjsr recently suspended its live programming in the face of the covid-19 pandemic. the staff and volunteers are doing an amazing job of airing a combination of pre-recorded, archived and automated programming to keep the station on the air as a constant companion to those of us who depend on cjsr and the radio during the most difficult times.

i've been pre-recording my show for a while, but a combination of physical and mental challenges, some of which you may be experiencing yourself, have made it difficult for me to rise to the occasion so far. i do plan to start regularly making my show again, including a few particularly special editions i've had in the works for a while, at some point during what could well be a very long temporary reality. at this point i haven't yet been able to; after having previously worked for the station for a few years and volunteering for even longer, i recognize that continuing to do my show in the long-term means more than a few missed weeks here and there. please keep listening to cjsr and i'll alert you when i'm back on the air with new shows.
